AWS Hits 39% Growth, Yet Capex Anxiety Grips Big Tech AI Spending

Amazon ($2.63T) closed -4.25% on 10/29 and fell another 7.3% after hours: AWS revenue grew 39% to $46B, its fastest in ~5 years, but EPS of $1.89 missed $1.97. A day earlier Alphabet posted its worst session since its IPO, with GOOGL closing -12.64% (#1 on the heat list, score 92, 5x normal volume) after Q3 capex of $51.4B and -$9.1B free cash flow. MRVL closed -13.24% (#2).

Daily Hot Topic

Every weekday before the Hong Kong open we pick the market's hottest story from the Aya Heat Index and write a plain-language, traceable deep-dive. 6 issues

Alphabet: Can Cloud Growth Offset AI Spending and Advertising Pressure?

At the October 28 close, GOOG ranked first on the heat board with a score of 81 and 2.1x relative volume, up 1.6% in the regular session; after earnings it fell about 9.3% after hours. Reported quarterly revenue was $127.58 billion, EPS $2.12 and Google Cloud revenue growth 103%, while advertising, investment losses and continued capital spending frame the debate over growth versus cash returns.

Boeing: Turning Backlog into Production and Profit

At the October 27, 2026 close, BA had a heat score of 79 and relative volume of 7.4x; a fresh quote showed $168.18, down 10.69%, consistent with the ranking, although no after-hours quote was obtained. Boeing confirmed a core loss of $0.34 per share alongside positive free cash flow, creating a timely opportunity to examine the disconnect between backlog, deliveries and profitability.

Hong Kong Physical AI: Turning Spatial Perception into Commercial Orders

At the October 26, 2026 close, Hesai scored 78 in heat with 3.3 times relative volume, while Dobot recorded 4.4 times relative volume; eastmoney showed Hesai up 8.56%, below the ranking's 9.2% but not a reversal, and Hong Kong had not yet opened this morning. The spatial camera offers an event lead, but an earlier government page already described it, so research should not assume an overnight debut or established revenue contribution and should focus on commercialization evidence.

Cybersecurity Rally: Can AI Protection Convert into Revenue?

CRWD ranks first on the US heat list with a score of 83, rising 8.2% on 1.5x relative volume; PANW gained 7.2% and NET 7.3%, indicating a sector-wide move. CrowdStrike announced an expanded AI agent security collaboration with NVIDIA on October 21, providing a recent product catalyst, though its role in the session's rally remains unconfirmed.

Bloom Falls After Earnings: Why AI Power Growth Is Not Yet Cash

BE scored 72 in heat, fell 11.2%, and traded at 2.5 times relative volume, showing a substantial selloff on elevated activity. The Motley Fool reported that the company raised its full-year revenue guidance, but negative operating cash flow and expansion spending drew investor attention, creating a clear growth-versus-cash-conversion research question.

Company deep-dives

Long-form research on tech and cyclical leaders: how the business makes money, what the market is pricing, what to watch next.

SHANGHAI STAR: 688825

CXMT — three years of losses, one half-year guided to erase them

Three years and ~¥31.8bn of losses, then a first-ever profit in 2025 and an H1-2026 guidance (¥50–57bn net) that would erase all of it — a company the US blacklisted in Dec 2024, no controlling shareholder, pricing the biggest A-share IPO of the year (~¥29.5bn).

NASDAQ: AAPL

Apple — the only Mag 7 that refused to buy a receipt

Google pays Apple ~$20B a year for its front door; Apple pays Google ~$1B a year for Siri's new brain. Capex of $13B against the hyperscalers' $660B+ — fifty to one — yet the group's slowest grower wears 37.3x trailing, its richest sober multiple. What the certainty premium actually buys, and five dated events inside nine months that could reopen it.

NASDAQ: TSLA

Tesla — the car business priced at 12 cents on the dollar

BofA's sum-of-the-parts says autos are 12% of the price; robotaxi, Optimus and FSD promises are the other 88%. 42 driverless cars against Waymo's 500K paid rides a week, a $1T comp package that doubles as management's own probability map, and ~196x forward earnings — the control case of the receipts economy.

KRX / NASDAQ: 000660.KS · SKHY

SK hynix — the company Micron almost bought, now the largest ADR in history

From 125 won and a $7B bailout to a $1.12T market cap and a 72% operating margin — six days before it prices the largest ADR offering ever ($29B, Nasdaq, July 10). Two-thirds of NVIDIA's HBM4 runs on its memory. Trailing 23x, forward 5.5x: the market is paying trillion-dollar prices while pricing the earnings to die.

Alphabet — lost all eight Transformer authors, staged the fastest comeback

It invented the Transformer and watched every author walk out to build its competitors. Then: a $462B backlog (roughly 40% from Anthropic), TPUs selling as merchant silicon, Apple paying ~$1B a year to put Gemini inside Siri — while 68% of searches end without a click. The comeback is real, and at 27.5x/24.7x it is fully narrated.

Mag 7 · Search / AI · Cloud · TPU
NASDAQ: MSFT

Microsoft — it built an empire on someone else's technology; now it's being done back

In 1980 it licensed DOS to IBM non-exclusively and inverted the giant. In April 2026 OpenAI deleted the AGI clause, capped the revenue share and went non-exclusive — the same clause, pointed the other way. RPO of $627B (~45% OpenAI), Copilot's 20M seats against an 11.5% usage share, and a ~$135B stake carried nowhere on the books.

NASDAQ: AMZN

Amazon — assembling the most expensive flywheel ever built

February: a $200B capex guide, stock -11%. April: the same plan with receipts attached, +27% in a week — the market issued a permission slip. AWS +28%, a $364B backlog before the new $100B Anthropic deal, >$225B of Trainium commitments, trailing FCF of $1.2B, and shareholder returns of exactly zero — by design.

NASDAQ: META

Meta — the cheapest Mag 7 stock just invented its own cash register

Record single-day value swings in both directions within months, a buyback that went to exactly zero — the tell — and $125B of 2026 capex flowing into Meta Compute. At 21.2x trailing / 15.8x forward, the cheapest member of the group is making its most concentrated bet, funded with what used to be the shareholders' money.

Sandisk — thrown away twice, best stock in the S&P

A $4B castoff in April 2025; a $258B giant fourteen months later, gross margin 22.5% → 78.4% in five quarters. Then −26% in a week on zero company news. Structural re-rating of NAND, or the most synchronized cycle top memory has ever printed?

CoreWeave — AI's landlord, the week its tenants started building their own

A $99.4B backlog against a $46.7B market cap — and a 13% one-day drop because Meta, its $21B customer, may start selling its own surplus compute. Contracted infrastructure compounder, or a leveraged spread trade on a commodity that deflates 30% a year?

NASDAQ: MU

Micron — when the worst business in tech started printing money

Forty years a brutal commodity, near death more than once — then AI made its dullest product the scarcest thing in computing. An 84% gross margin against a 7.6× forward P/E: a generational bargain, or the most spectacular cycle top ever?
